------------------------------------
The defect detection percentage (DDP) gives a measure of the effectiveness of the testing at a particular stage in the testing cycle. It is calculated as a ratio. The numerator is the number of errors found in that stage of testing. The denominator is the total number of errors found in that stage and in subsequent stages up to and including the stage at which the DDP is being measured.
For example, the DDP for stage 1 of the testing process after the completion of stage 2 is calculated as the number of defects found in stage 1 divided by the number of defects found in both stage 1 and stage 2. Suppose that 40 defects were found in stage 1 and 20 defects were found in stage 2. The DDP of stage 1 after stage 2 would be calculated as 40 divided by (40 + 20) = 67%
The form given below will allow the number of defects found in up to 4 stages of testing to be entered. A field is then provided to nominate a stage whose DDP is to be calculated. A second field allows the stage to be specified after which the DDP is to be calculated. In the above example, the number of defects found in stage 1 and stage 2 would be entered. Stage 1 would then be nominated as the stage whose DDP is to be calculated and stage 2 would be nominated as the stage after which the DDP is to be calculated.
